Getting into the new changes was actually pretty easy, as you d already know the mechanics and just have to adjust them to it. At first, this also made me skeptical, as i didnt want to relearn all stuff, but actually thats not a good reason to say one is better than the other, just because its been there before. I agree that H5.5 changes quiete a bit from the base game, i dont see this as a negative though. Just keep in mind that mods have to be made for 3.0 to be compatible with the improved AI mod as far as I'm aware. I haven't tried it yet, but I really like the idea of the Heroes of Axeoth mod. It's better to get the standalone enhanced AI mod and another couple mods. There are probably some things I missed, but that's about it. A bunch of stuff scales with knowledge now for absolutely no reason, including the artifacts I mentioned above. From artifacts that give resources once a week to artifacts that give small amounts of troops once a week. There are so many bad artifacts in the game now that it's not even funny. Artifact pool was diluted with useless artifacts. Because RNG is fun, right? Original game also had the problem on not telling you what you're going to face, but at least you had documentation for that and knew what to expect. I could fight 200 centaurs and get a minor artifact and some T1 units while my opponent could fight 300 goblins and get a relic artifact and T4 units. You fight random units and get random rewards. Not to mention a lot of the specialties are really boring and mostly useless, which leads to each faction having 1-2 possible main-able heroes at best. Hero specialties keep getting changed and swapped around that heroes don't even have an identity anymore. Perks from magic school skills now teach you the relevant spell, which makes mage guilds useless until the very late game. While it does have some truth in it due to there being 3 classes for each faction, you're still pretty much forced towards a specific build with every one of them. I've seen most 5.5 players claim that "in original game you were forced to have a certain build, in 5.5 there are many more builds and you're not forced towards any of them", which I can tell you right now is a false claim. Skill wheel was dumbed down (you no longer have inter-skill dependencies and ultimate abilities). While it definitely does have some positives (more heroes, balance changes, way better RMG), they're overshadowed by the negatives by quite a bit: "Better AI" is not really a positive/negative btw, since you can get that as a separate mod for ToE, so it's not really a 5.5 thing.įor me, it changes the game way too much.
